Despite the pop star’s many antics, which make his fans shake their heads in disappointment, his candid moment at the Paris concert seemed to have earned him applause from the audience, based on their reactions.

This is not the first time that Bieber has put his Christian faith on public display. He previously let a pastor named Judah Smith preach during one of his concerts, and had sought baptism from the ministers of Hillsong Church in New York City.

The young pop star also has a tattoo on his face in the form of a small cross. In an interview with E! Magazine, he explained that the tiny tattoo stands for his faith in Christ and his efforts to find purpose in God. Bieber also bears another cross tattoo on his chest, plus the Hebrew word “Yeshua,” which means “Jesus.”

Earlier this year, Bieber revealed to GQ in an interview how important it is for him to lean on God. He said he does stupid things when he is on his own, so his faith in God gives him a sense of security.

“I feel like that’s why I have a relationship with Him, because I need it. I suck by myself. Like, when I’m by myself and I feel like I have nothing to lean on? Terrible. Terrible person,” said Bieber. “… It just gives me some sort of hope and something to grasp onto, and a feeling of security, and a feeling of being wanted, and a feeling of being desired, and I feel like we can only get so much of that from a human.”

He also revealed that his hit song “Sorry” was all about acknowledging his past mistakes. He admits he did a lot of dumb things when he was younger, but he now knows that all those things made him who he is today.
